She specialises in character development and design using Procreate. Desirai enjoys creating strong and deadly female characters that identify with audiences the inner strength connection to First Nations culture gives her, as well as the empowerment of identifying as a Gunggari woman. Desirai’s work pays homage to her own emotional journey of rebuilding her confidence, and hopes she can inspire other women to do the same.
At Awesome Black we don’t like to talk about the deficit that First Nations people have gone through, we don’t like to talk about the history of government failures and the effects they have had on our communities. We recognise that they have happened, but we want to talk about what we can do right now to get things moving forward for us, by us.
At Awesome Black we are attempting to create a system where wealth stays in our communities and we can build up Blakenomics, supporting each other’s businesses and community. At every point when we buy something we think… can we buy this from a First Nations person, if the answer is yes we do it, if the answer is no… we ask more questions. Why not? And how do we make sure that we can in the future?
