Join the Awesome Black Foundation Board and Help Empower First Nations Creativity

The Awesome Black Foundation is excited to announce that we are seeking dedicated and passionate individuals to join our inaugural Board of Directors. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a groundbreaking initiative that will empower First Nations creators, preserve cultural stories, and promote innovative artistic expressions across Australia.

Launching in 2025, the Awesome Black Foundation is the charitable arm of Awesome Black Studio, founded by Travis De Vries. We are committed to building a sustainable platform that supports emerging and established First Nations creatives, fostering cultural growth through grants, scholarships, and strategic collaborations.

We are looking for 3-5 Board Directors who are ready to contribute their expertise and leadership at this critical juncture. Your role will help shape the future of the Foundation, ensuring that we provide impactful support to First Nations creators in the creative industries.

Who We’re Looking For

We are seeking individuals with a strong passion for the arts, culture, and creative industries, as well as corporate leaders who align with our mission to amplify First Nations voices. Specifically, we are looking to fill the following positions:

  • Chairperson
  • Treasurer
  • Secretary
  • Ordinary Members (2)

We encourage applications from individuals with experience in:

  • Financial management and planning
  • Philanthropic relationships and corporate sponsorships
  • Business development strategy
  • Foundations and charities governance
  • Cultural and community engagement

The Foundation’s Board will maintain a minimum of 50% First Nations representation and welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Responsibilities and Time Commitment

As a Board Director, you will help guide the Foundation’s strategic direction, oversee financial performance, and ensure effective governance. Directors will volunteer approximately 1–2 hours per fortnight, with quarterly Board meetings held online.

Directors will be expected to commit to a minimum of 18 months in their roles and may also participate in sub-committees to further support the Foundation’s growth and initiatives.
